At the age of 13, she fell in love with a communist Frankenstein
and his gloomy, sweet gibberings in the dimly lit trade-union room.
The factory looked like a circus, the workers making these funny motions,
always the same, standing before monsters of fire and chemicals
from morning and late into the night,
in spring, in summer, in winter under the dirty snow.
The army of workers is beloved of certain idealists
whose hope is to solve their own problems
by this imaginary unity.
The decadent seminarists
– their sexuality replete with a gentle sadism – read Lenin.
Argentine tango is champagne, all dreams are non-trivial.
Here in this cabaret the waiters are Bertolt Brecht, George Grosz
